Tub Fun

Posted by RTaylor on Wed 25 of Jun, 2008 [20:30 UTC]

I got a bit tired of working at the "Figure in a Doorway" drawing {See below} and decided that I needed to do a few quick {hopefully}, small paintings so that I could sort of clear my head and actually finish something this year.

Those paintings have been tentatively titled Mudspace and Etherspace. They can be reached through the menu at the top left.

Additionally, I added another entry to the Amy Portrait painting {blog}. All of them have a ways to go yet but maybe you'll find the posts interesting.

Another take on the "hybrid" idea

Posted by RTaylor on Sat 21 of Jun, 2008 [01:33 UTC]

...Still working at the "Figure in a Doorway" drawing {I'm up to something like a zillion or so hours by now.}.

Anyway, on a note that really has little to do with anything on this page {aside from the green color that predominates}, my wife and I have been spending a lot of time on our bikes lately... riding trails, camping, towing my son around, shopping, being free and enjoying Spring and so on... I was recently looking for a bike for my son and ran across thisexternal link, which just strikes me as one of the niftiest ideas around.

{Back to your regularly scheduled programming...}

Maelstrom Milestone

After what seems like an awfully long period of time, I finalized the drawing {sketch} for Maelstrom.

I added a couple of posts to the Maelstrom blog. It's moving along quite nicely.

I've added yet another painting to my list of "works in progress". This one is a portrait of Amy, my wife. You can reach it through the link in the "Section Menu" or by clicking the thumbnail here.

Maelstrom

I updated "Coffee Break" a bit... changed the name to "Maelstrom" and got the drawing started.

Coffee Break

I spent some time at building/priming canvases today and got another painting {barely} started. You can read about it by following the "Maelstrom" link in the Section Menu or by clicking on the thumbnail here. It is sort of fun.

There are several new photos of older paintings in my portfolio and I replaced a few of the nasty, old scans as well.

I've been editing video for the past few weeks so I haven't really had anything to put up here. I did come up with sketches/ideas for two more paintings though... one of which I'll do another blog for pretty soon and one of which will take a while. I did add a little to "Figure in a Doorway", a new review or two and some photos of some older paintings.

Figure in Doorway

Posted by RTaylor on Fri 18 of Apr, 2008 [04:28 UTC]

I've begun a new blog called "Figure in a Doorway". It will be a walkthrough of another painting that I'm working on at the moment. The painting's a bit more realistic than "Big Experiment" and may interest those folk that aren't all that thrilled by work that is that abstract.

At any rate, I'll try to enlighten folk as to my technique along the way. Maybe people will find something that will help them in their own work. Or... simply find that they like my technique.

Big Experiment makes it to the next phase ... sort of.

Quilt Plug

Posted by RTaylor on Sun 13 of Apr, 2008 [05:37 UTC]

I went to the International Quilt Festivalexternal link here in Chicago {land} this weekend, as did, I'm sure, most of the women that reside in the Chicagoland area and quite a few others from everywhere else. My wife is a "quiltperson" and I've tagged along with her to several of the shows.

Despite the fact that most of the artwork is arguably a quilt, the shows are really impressive. This year there were many, many "art quilts" on display; many of which were pretty impressive and several of which gave me ideas as to how to resolve a few technical problems I've been having with some paintings.

The shows are highly recommended. Fabric arts have come a long way in the past few years. I would suggest that you pack a lunch if you intend to stay for any real length of time. Either that or pack your wallet.

Newer Fractals

A few more from that same series

I stuck to the idea a little more closely with these.

New Fractals

Posted by RTaylor on Thu 10 of Apr, 2008 [08:03 UTC]

Some images from a recent series of extremely high resolution fractals.

My focus was on the nautilus type forms that you see in so many fractals. I did stray just a little bit from that requirement.

La Large Experimente

Posted by RTaylor on Thu 10 of Apr, 2008 [00:07 UTC]

I put up the new blog that I mentioned below. It's basically going to be a record of my newest painting. Since it's a large, experimental painting, I'm calling the blog simply "Big Experiment". I like the idea so there may be more of them.

You can get there by clicking the thumbnail here or by clicking on the title in the sidebar. You can see if there's anything new there under "Last Blog Posts" to the left.
